EAST AFRICAN EXPLORER - 13 DAYS / 12 NIGHTS

Our most popular combined safaris includes some of the best selling adventures in Kenya and Tanzania. Travel throughout is by road with border formalities at Namanga. Both itineraries visit the same great parks and only vary in style of accommodation. Each programme is also packed with game viewing from the shared safari bus in Kenya and shared 4x4 in Tanzania. On return to Nairobi, the group is treated to a celebration dinner at Carnivore Restaurant before the transfer to the late departing flight or local hotel for overnight. With four weekly departures between the two itineraries, you are bound to find a date that meets your travel plans.

Day 1


Upon your arrival at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you are met and transferred to your Nairobi area hotel for overnight on bed & breakfast basis - Safari Park Hotel.

Day 2


You depart after breakfast and travel by road to Masai Mara National Reserve. You arrive at your lodge for lunch. After lunch and a chance to enjoy the facilities at the lodge, you set out on an afternoon game drive. Part of the Serengeti ecosystem, Masai Mara is part-time home to the annual migration of more than a million wildebeest and full-time home to a rich variety of resident game. Overnight in Mara Simba Lodge or Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 3


Using your lodge as a base, you spend the day game viewing in Masai Mara National Reserve.

Day 4


You have a final glimpse of Masai Mara National Reserve as you depart and drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. You arrive at the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you game view with a chance to see the exciting wildlife and birds that flock to the lake. Dinner and overnight is at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 5


Travelling with a picnic lunch, you depart Lake Nakuru and head towards Amboseli National Park. It is a long drive but you pass interesting villages and have stops along the way. Those travelling on options A has a game view en route to the lodge. Those on option C arrive at the lodge in the afternoon and have a chance to relax and enjoy the swimming pool and other facilities. Dinner and overnight at Ol Tukai Lodge or Amboseli Sopa Lodge.

Day 6


With Mount Kilimanjaro serving as a dramatic background, you spend the day game viewing in Amboseli National Park. Meals and overnight at your lodge.

Day 7


You travel from Amboseli to the Namanga Border. After border formalities, you continue by road in your Tanzanian vehicle to Arusha arriving for lunch. You depart after lunch and drive through the Maasai Steppe and Rift Valley. Small villages and huts dot the landscape and the imposing Great Rift can be seen in the distance. At the village of Makuyuni, you turn towards Lake Manyara and the Rift. After passing the village of Mto wa Mbu, you ascend to the top of the escarpment and Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8


After an early breakfast, you descend to the foot of the escarpment and game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Here there is a chance of viewing hippo and flamingo and a certain chance of enjoying the antics of large families of baboons. Though all lions can climb trees, Lake Manyara National Park is noted for them. You return to the lodge for lunch and then set out to travel by road to Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation area and a preview of the excitement to come. Once you pass the Naabi Gate, game viewing takes on a new dimension as you continue to your lodge arriving for dinner and overnight. Overnight is at Serengeti Serena Lodge or Serengeti Sopa Lodge.

Day 9


Using your lodge as a base, you spend the day game viewing in Serengeti National Park. You may also choose to start your day with an optional balloon safari. Meals and overnight a the lodge as above.

Day 10


You head out after breakfast and begin game driving in Serengeti National Park. You continue game viewing as you head toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There is a picnic lunch served to provide more time for game viewing. You arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge or Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.

Day 11


Your full day is spent exploring the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. Formed when an ancient volcano collapsed, the floor of the crater is home to more than 30,000 resident mammals. It is possible to see the big five in just a few minutes. A picnic lunch is served near a hippo pool. In the last afternoon, you return to the crater's rim for dinner and overnight at the lodge as above.

Day 12


This morning you head to Tarangire National Park and begin game viewing as you enter en route to the lodge. You have lunch at the lodge and an afternoon game drive returning for dinner and overnight. Accommodation is at Tarangire Sopa Lodge

Day 13


You set out after breakfast for the drive back to Arusha arriving by noon. After lunch, you continue by road to Nairobi and have a farewell dinner at Carnivore Restaurant. You then are transferred to Nairobi's JKIA Airport. Here you may continue to the coast to relax on the beach, travel to, Uganda, Rwanda and more, or return home.
